Legal opinion: MoE not providing full disclosure on potential health effects
Wind Concerns Ontario sought a legal opinion on the recent release of a report commissioned by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and the accompanying media release, sent out by the government December 2011.
In the opinion of lawyer Eric Gillespie, the Ministry has not fulfilled its responsibilities to disclose information on potential health effects from industrial wind turbines, and its media release is so simplistic as to lead the public to conclude that wind turbines cannot harm human health, when existing research shows this not to be true.
"This is very disturbing," says Wind Concerns Ontario president Jane Wilson, who is also a registered nurse and health care writer. "They crafted that media release specifically to make this year-old report look like the last word on this issue. It's out of date, and completely ignores the expert evidence from and conclusions of the Environmental Review Tribunal last year. And, it's yet another literature review. This province has yet to officially connect with the real people experiencing real health effects out there."
