TORONTO, April 3, 2012 /CNW/ - More than 40 community groups from all over the province are gathering in Toronto to demonstrate opposition to the Ontario Feed In Tariff or FIT program, which rewards corporate wind power developers with generous subsidies for industrial wind farms.
"The Auditor General for Ontario already told this government that wind power is expensive and unreliable, it actually kills jobs rather than create them, and the resulting higher electricity rates are bad for consumers and business," says Jane Wilson, president of Wind Concerns Ontario, the umbrella group for many of the organizations participating in the demonstration today. "Instead, Ontario renewed the FIT program, and continues to pay corporations huge subsidies for power we don't need."
The event begins with speakers in a downtown Toronto park and concludes with a peaceful march to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre where the government's Feed In Tariff Forum for the power industry is being held April 3rd and 4th.
