Concerns raised about Turbines' Impact on Air Ambulance Service

The Multi-Municipal Wind Turbine Working Group has written Minister of Health Deb Matthews with concerns about the impacts of Industrial Wind Turbines on health care services.

RE: JEOPARDIZATION OF AIR AMBULANCE ACCESS NEAR INDUSTRIAL WIND TURBINEDEVELOPMENTS (.pdf)
The following technical concerns have been identified for air ambulances flying near wind
turbines
  1. Interference with navigational radar...
  2. Destabilization of airborne maneuvers caused by turbulence...
  3. Limitation of available days when flights possible...
  4. Lost time if flights must be diverted around turbines and ground transport used...
  5. Need for early input into project plans...

  1. I can see that this is a very real problem. If there was a crash in the country that required a helipcopter to rush somebody off to the hospital, IWTs just become another obstacle that will mean more difficulty in takeoffs and landings. If nothing else, the helicopters have to attain a much higher vertical than they normally would before moving horizontally... and that requires extra time.
